Offered for sale is one brand new, never worn ladies
loom-quilted petticoat. This isn't your ordinary petticoat.
It is made from "quilted" fabric called matellesse. The
history of matellesse or "Marseilles" cloth can be found
here. Quilted petticoats add more insulation during the
colder months for those events that are on the chilly
side. Contrary to popular thought, quilted petticoats
also offer "air conditioning" during warmer months by
holding the skirts away from the legs. I can attest to the
added advantage of quilted petticoats keeping the
skirts from becoming entangled around the ankles - I
no longer worry about tripping over my hems while
walking.
Considered a foundation garment and to be worn as
undress/underwear, this petticoat is pleated to a
waistband with two pocket slits.This colonial quilted
petticoat will fit women with a thicker waistline and
hangs about mid-calf on a 5'4" female.
NOTE*** This petticoat has had to be cleaned and
pressed due to a spot of dirt that couldn't be removed
with brushing. The pictures show the final result after
the manufacturer's sizing has been removed and what
it should look like after washing. It is NEW AND NEVER
WORN.
